THE CHRISTMAS TREE

This service could be used during Advent at a time when people are dressing Christmas trees in their homes and when the people of the church will be preparing to dress one in church. Traditionally different decorations are put onto the tree. These include bells, candles, tinsel and candy canes. These and other decorations are given meanings so that their place on the tree has a symbolic meaning which helps us to think about our preparations for Christmas.

The service can be led by one or two people or it can involve alot of people of all ages if different people bring out the symbols and put then on the waiting tree and if they or others speak of the symbolic meanings of the decorations.

At the end of the service the tree will be decorated for all to see and everyone present will have a candy cane to take home to put on their tree.
